Robin's Songs
Monday, May 10, 2010 at 10:05PM There is no other sound to please the ear than the voice of one I hold so dear,
That voice that charms the birds and causes eyes of gods to mist with tears,
Tones that pluck human spines like angel fingers dancing upon their harps,
And I am privileged to share my love and life and time with one so near.
There is no other music captured by the soul that sways the world to sing
Melodies that ring through all the lands and cross the boundaries of words,
To go beyond colour, caste and creed, language, sword and evil deed.
My heart has need to praise the one who carves the way to higher things.

Baby Blackbird
Monday, May 10, 2010 at 09:05PM Found a baby blackbird today that was trying to fly, but it tumbled over and over, trying to land, its feet not working correctly. I was with three colleagues from Against Breast Cancer and we were looking for a suitable site on the grounds for a Charity Event in September. I threw my soft red cape over the bird carefully, and whisked it off to St. Tiggywinkles Wild Life Hospital in Haddenham run by Les and Sue Stocker and their son Colin. Les will heal the bird for sure. He is a genius, deserving any honour he gets for caring for our wildlife. Hundreds of creatures are healed there. I have often found injured birds and cared for them, maybe because my mother kept hens and chickens, and she cared for any of them that got injured. Foxes and rats can do a lot of damage. Our best layer was a one-legged hen that survived an attack. Now, if I find an injured animal or bird, I take it to St. Tiggywinkles if I can't heal it myself. Thank goodness for the dedication of this family and their many helpers and volunteers.
I also found a large cone of bees hanging from our walnut tree, and worried because they had swarmed and landed on a very flimsy branch of the tree. They were swaying there but quite still, very packed together, so I called for help, and a Bee Keeper from the High Wycombe Bee Keepers Association said it was because they were cold. There were about 5,000 bees in this swarm, taking turns going from the inside to the outside of the nest, protecting their Queen. Apparently it is going to be very frosty and chilly tonight, and if we hadn't called to rescue them and have them taken to a hive, they would probably have perished overnight. I think it must be the same swarm that was trying to make one of the tortoise houses into a hive last week. I don't think the tortoises would have appreciated their new neighbours.
I started a new Star Child Oracle picture.
R-J did an Acting Workshop with casting directors, arranged by his agent Back Door Production, and loved it. He is also producing and acting in a Short film this week, and has several projects on the go.
As President of the Heritage Foundation, Robin attended and participated in the Unveiling of Sir John Mill's plaque at Pinewood Studios last Sunday. Many friends were there from both the world of music and acting, including of course the Mills family.
March Hare and Tortoises
Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 07:58PM March has been an incredibly prolific month. I finished two of the Star Child Oracle pictures, which are on the website, and I have started another two...enjoying every moment drawing and painting them. My mother is extremely happy. She has hinted that I have been wasting my artistic talent, which I know I have inherited from her, and also from my father.
Robin loves it when I paint, and both Robin and RJ check the work to see how it is progressing.
I saw a hare racing through the grounds today, and was very glad that the wolfhounds hadn't seen it. And our three tortoises are awake after a long cold winter. Every year they hibernate at Halloween, and they awaken usually on or just after the Spring Equinox 21st/22nd March. They were a week late this year.
Two Kites have built a nest in one of our trees...can't wait to see what a baby Kite looks like; and we have a Kestral that has moved into the garden. Everything is buzzing life again. But it saddened me that a beautiful intricate nest, woven so expertly with fir and fern and grass, in a sudden gust of high wind, fell out of one of the big fir trees. There was nothing in it. It wasn't the Kites' nest, but belonged to a smaller bird. I wondered if I should have climbed the tree to try to get it back up there again. I hope the birds managed to build another in time.
A couple of years ago, a little songbird came through the window for several mornings, stole hair out of my hairbrush in the windowsill, and lined a nest it had built in a Yew tree. Later, after the birds had gone, we found the nest, lined with my hair. There was something very magical about that.
More later. Back to the drawing.
Love, Dwina**
